1. Peperomia, An Urban Bistro, Mukhani
Peperomia is the most ambitious use of vertical space in the city. It runs across three distinct levels: an air-conditioned indoor floor, a rooftop, and a smaller upper terrace locals have taken to calling the super rooftop. That layout does something unusual for Haldwani, which is to let one restaurant serve three different moods on the same evening. A family lunch indoors, a long conversation on the roof at sunset, and a louder table upstairs when the weekend live sessions start.
It is also the most consistently programmed venue on this list. Weekend evenings bring live singers to the rooftop, and the kitchen leans Indian and tandoor rather than the continental menu most rooftop restaurants in Haldwani default to. The bar covers beer, wine and cocktails. Reviewers repeatedly mention staff by name, which is usually a sign of a floor team that has been kept together rather than churned.
The location helps. Mukhani sits close enough to the middle of Haldwani to be an easy drive from Rampur Road, Kaladhungi Road and Nainital Road alike, which matters for a rooftop cafe that fills up on Friday and Saturday. From the third floor the view runs out towards the Kumaon foothills, and on clear evenings after the monsoon the light over the ridgeline is the reason people book the outer tables first.
It also solves a problem that most open-air dining in the region does not. Haldwani is hot in May and genuinely cold in January, and a rooftop that is glorious in October can be unusable in either extreme. Because the indoor floor is air-conditioned and sits directly below the terrace, the same restaurant works as a summer lunch spot, a winter dinner room and an open-air bar in between. One of the older names in Haldwani rooftop dining and still one of the busiest, helped by a Rampur Road address that is easy to reach from most of the city. The menu is largely North Indian. Weekend evenings fill early.
3. The Roof, Shivalik Tower, Lal Danth Bypass Road
A third-floor multicuisine lounge near Matrix Hospital, and one of the more comfortable rooms on this list when the weather turns. Newer than most of its competitors, with the review count to match, but the ratings have held steady.
4. The Aroma Rooftop Restaurant, Gaulapar
Worth the drive out to Gaulapar precisely because it is out in Gaulapar. Less traffic noise, more open sky, and among the gentlest bills on this list. The highest rated rooftop in the city at the time of writing, though on a smaller sample than the big names.
5. The Studs Bar and Grill, Durga City Centre, Ranibagh Road
A terrace-floor all-day cafe and bar above the Durga City Centre complex. It draws a younger crowd than most of the list and is one of the few rooftops here that works as well at four in the afternoon as it does at nine at night.
6. Nayi Saanjh Rooftop Cafe and Restaurant
The veteran. Nearly 800 reviews is a lot of dinners, and the crowd skews to families and large groups. Ratings sit lower than newer venues, which is what usually happens to restaurants that have been serving long enough to have an off night on record.
